The Day of the Lord is Near at Hand

The Day of the Lord Begins with a Great Earthquake

In the very near future there shall be a great catastrophic earthquake which shall effect the whole earth and it signifies the beginning of the great day of the Lords wrath.  It is not a single 24 hour period but shall last many days.

Revelation 6:12.  I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13.  And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14.  Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.
 15.  And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16.  and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
 17.  "For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?''

Psalm 110:5.  The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. 6.  He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries. 7.  He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; Therefore He shall lift up the head.

Isiaiah 2:10.  Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, from the terror of the Lord and the glory of His majesty. 11.  The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
 12.  For the day of the Lord of hosts shall come upon everything proud and lofty, upon everything lifted up and it shall be brought low  13.  upon all the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan;
 14.  upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up;
 15.  upon every high tower, and upon every fortified wall; 16.  upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all the beautiful sloops. 17.  The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day, 18.  but the idols He shall utterly abolish. 19.  They shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, from the terror of the Lord and the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake the earth mightily. 20.  In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which they made, each for himself to worship, to the moles and bats, 21.  to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the crags of the rugged rocks, from the terror of the Lord and the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake the earth mightily. 22.  Sever yourselves from such a man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he?

Isaiah 3:10.  "Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 11.  Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be given him. 12.  As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.''

Isaiah 13:6.  Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7.  Therefore all hands will be limp, every man's heart will melt,
 8.  and they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames. 9.  Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it. 10.  For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be darkened in its going forth, and the moon will not cause its light to shine. 11.  "I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12.  I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, a man more than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13.  Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts and in the day of His fierce anger. 14.  It shall be as the hunted gazelle, and as a sheep that no man takes up; every man will turn to his own people, and everyone will flee to his own land. 15.  Everyone who is found will be thrust through, and everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.

Isaiah 24:19.  The earth is violently broken, the earth is split open, the earth is shaken exceedingly. 20.  The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a hut; its transgression shall be heavy upon it, and it will fall, and not rise again.
 21.  It shall come to pass in that day that the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones, and on the earth the kings of the earth. 22.  They will be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and will be shut up in the prison; after many days they will be punished. 23.  Then the moon will be disgraced and the sun ashamed; for the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem and before His elders, gloriously.

Isaiah 27: 1.  In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong, will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; and He will slay the reptile that is in the sea.

Isaiah 27:12.  And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord will thresh, from the channel of the River to the Brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. 13.  So it shall be in that day. that the great trumpet will be blown; they will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, and they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the Lord in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 25:30.  "Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: `The Lord will roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31.  A noise will come to the ends of the earth for the Lord has a controversy with the nations; He will plead His case with all flesh. He will give those who are wicked to the sword,' says the Lord.'' 32.  Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Behold, disaster shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth. 33.  "And at that day the slain of the Lord shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented, or gathered, or buried; they shall become refuse on the ground. 34.  "Wail, shepherds, and cry! Roll about in the ashes, you leaders of the flock! For the days of your slaughter and your dispersions are fulfilled; you shall fall like a precious vessel. 35.  And the shepherds will have no way to flee, nor the leaders of the flock to escape. 36.  A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a wailing of the leaders to the flock will be heard. For the Lord has plundered their pasture,
 37.  and the peaceful habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
 38.  He has left his lair like the lion; for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the Oppressor, and because of His fierce anger.''

Joel 2:1.  Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the Lord is coming, for it is at hand:
 2.  a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, like the morning clouds spread over the mountains. a people come, great and strong, the like of whom has never been; nor will there ever be any such after them, even for many successive generations. 3.  A fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns; the land is like the Garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; surely nothing shall escape them. 4.  Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; and like swift steeds, so they run. 5.  With a noise like chariots over mountaintops they leap, like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble, like a strong people set in battle array. 6.  Before them the people writhe in pain; all faces are drained of color. 7.  They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. 8.  They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. And when they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down. 9.  They run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall; they climb into the houses, they enter at the windows like a thief.
 10.  The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness. 11.  The Lord gives voice before His army, for His camp is very great; for strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; who can endure it? 12.  "Now, therefore,'' says the Lord, "Turn to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.'' 13.  So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm. 14.  Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?
15.  Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly;
16.  gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babes; let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing room. 17.  Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar; let them say, "Spare Your people, O Lord, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, `Where is their God?' ''

Joel2:31.  The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. 32.  And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

Joel 3:9.  Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near, let them come up. 10.  Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears; let the weak say, `I am strong.' ''
 11.  Assemble and come, all you nations, and gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O Lord. 12.  "Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.
 13.  Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow for their wickedness is great.'' 14.  Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
 15.  The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness.
 16.  The Lord also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the Lord will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel. 17.  "So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no aliens shall ever pass through her again.''

Obadiah 1:15.  "For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; as you have done, it shall be done to you; your reprisal shall return upon your own head.

Zephaniah 1:7.  Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; for the day of the Lord is at hand, for the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests.
 8.  "And it shall be, in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with foreign apparel.
 9.  In the same day I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit. 10.  "And there shall be on that day,'' says the Lord, "The sound of a mournful cry from the Fish Gate, a wailing from the Second Quarter, and a loud crashing from the hills. 11.  Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh! for all the merchant people are cut down; all those who handle money are cut off.
 12.  "And it shall come to pass at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, `The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.' 13.  Therefore their goods shall become booty, and their houses a desolation; They shall build houses, but not inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards, but not drink their wine.'' 14.  The great day of the Lord is near; it is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; there the mighty men shall cry out. 15.  That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of devastation and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16.  a day of trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high towers. 17.  "I will bring distress upon men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord; their blood shall be poured out like dust, and their flesh like refuse.'' 18.  Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy, for He will make speedy riddance of all those who dwell in the land.

Zephaniah 2:1.  Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, 2.  before the decree is issued, before the day passes like chaff, before the Lord's fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger comes upon you! 3.  Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger.Zephaniah 3:8.  "Therefore wait for Me,'' says the Lord, "Until the day I rise up for plunder; My determination is to gather the nations to My assembly of kingdoms, to pour on them My indignation, All my fierce anger; all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy. 9.  "For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, that they all may call on the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one accord.

Zechariah 14:1.  Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. 2.  For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
 3.  Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. 4.  And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. 5.  Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the Lord my God will come, and all the saints with You. 6.  It shall come to pass in that day that there will be no light; the lights will diminish. 7.  It shall be one day which is known to the Lord neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light. 8.  And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in both summer and winter it shall occur.
 9.  And the Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be "the Lord is one,'' and His name one. 10.  All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananeel to the king's winepresses. 11.  The people shall dwell in it; and no longer shall there be utter destruction, but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
 12.  And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. 13.  It shall come to pass in that day that a great panic from the Lord will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, and raise his hand against his neighbor's hand; 14.  Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall be gathered together: gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. 15.  Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule, on the camel and the donkey, and on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be. 16.  And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17.  And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18.  If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
 19.  This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 20.  In that day "HOLINESS TO THE LORD'' shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the Lord's house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21.  Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

Malachi 4:1.  "For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,'' says the Lord of hosts, "that will leave them neither root nor branch.
 2.  But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves. 3.  You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,'' says the Lord of hosts. 4.  "Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5.  Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. 6.  And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.''

1 Thessalonians 5: 1.  But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2.  For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3.  For when they say, "Peace and safety!'' then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4.  But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5.  You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6.  Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7.  For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8.  But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9.  For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10.  who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11.  Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

2 Peter 3:7.  But the heavens and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word, reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
 8.  But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
 10.  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11.  Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12.  looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13.  Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14.  Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

The judgments written in the book of Revelation upon all wicked and unbelievers who dwell upon the earth are listed below.

Revelation 9:1.  And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2.  And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
 3.  And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4.  And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
 5.  And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6.  And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7.  And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8.  And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9.  And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10.  And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
 11.  And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.12.  One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
13.  And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14.  Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
 15.  And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16.  And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. 17.  And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
 18.  By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. 19.  For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

Revelation 14:17.  And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18.  And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. 19.  And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
 20.  And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Revelation 16:1.  And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
 2.  And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. 3.  And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
 4.  And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood. 5.  And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
 6.  For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. 7.  And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. 8.  And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. 9.  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
 10.  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
 11.  And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. 12.  And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13.  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14.  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15.  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
 16.  And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. 17.  And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
 18.  And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19.  And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 20.  And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21.  And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Repent, for the Day of the Lord is near at hand!
